Dante was right?

Second Level of Hell

You have come to a place mute of all light, where the wind bellows as the sea does in a tempest. This is the realm where the lustful spend eternity. Here, sinners are blown around endlessly by the unforgiving winds of unquenchable desire as punishment for their transgressions. The infernal hurricane that never rests hurtles the spirits onward in its rapine, whirling them round, and smiting, it molests them. You have betrayed reason at the behest of your appetite for pleasure, and so here you are doomed to remain. Cleopatra and Helen of Troy are two that share in your fate.

And so, when I die, I will have sex with Cleopatra and Helen of Troy? AWESOME!!!

The Dante's Inferno Test has banished you to the Second Level of Hell!

Well, the next better thing

I had a dream last night.

I had a dream that I had a webcast for the Jojo community to get news and to ask questions of Jojo and VIZ comics (the official translators of the book series).

I'm making that come true.

I just emailed the editor of Jojo at VIZ and he sent me the address of the person i'm to contact. I sent the following email:

To whom it may concern,

I am the webmaster of a popular North American Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fansite called 'jojopedia.com'. I have been online since April 2001 previously at 'Geocities' and, by the time of my URL registration of 'jojopedia.com' on August 1st, I had over 39,000 visitors in that time with an average of 17 visitors daily with parts of the site translated into Italian by some fans of its own. Now with the notice of an official translation of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure by your company VIZ Comics, my website has been getting on average 110 hits per day from people all over the world and I have received over 5,000 hits since my move on August 1st of this year. I am an active member in the online Jojo community and have been reading Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in its original Japanese since 1989.

I am adding to my website a 'Jojo Webcast' which will be a webcast for and about the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure community as a whole. In this I would be talking about things that are coming up in the US, Japan, Italy, and France (where Jojo is the most popular), interviews with webmasters, translators for fansites, and hopefully with some people at VIZ. I received your email address from a gentleman whom I believe is the editor of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure whom then instructed me to make my formal request to you. I hope this is acceptable.

I am writing to ask permission to interview one (or more) of the fine people working at VIZ Comics on the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure story, either translator, editor, or someone involved in the production of the manga. People in the community are 'chomping at the bit', as it were, for the book to come out in English and I thought that an interview with someone 'in the know' would be a great way to let the fans know a bit about some behind the scenes facts at VIZ and how Hirohiko Araki has influenced this translation as a whole.

For the interview I would send the exact questions I would ask in the interview via email and, if at all possible, I would like to have the interviewee send their answers back in '.wav' form for the webcast. I would then record the questions being asked myself and piece the interview together to make it sound as though we were having a conversation. If necessary, to make sure the broadcast interview is acceptable to you, I would send you the completed broadcast first and not make it available to the public until I receive your ok. This webcast would then be a free download at my website at 'jojopedia.com'. If you have optional ideas I would be more than happy to hear about them.

I thank you for your time and hope that we can work something out. I am very excited that VIZ is the company translating Jojo and hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Justin S. Carmical

She's out of the office this afternoon, but hopefully she will reply by the end of next week.

C.H.E.E.T.

I know it has been months and months since the last CHEET night but I am finally ready to host another night of games food and friendship.

The magic date is: Saturday September 24th at 6:30pm-midnight. The theme will be, appropriately, 'New Beginnings'. This theme denotes something that was fun once upon a time, went away/disappeared for a while and then you found it and enjoyed it all over either in a new release or the old way it was. The 'Retro-High-Score' game of that night will therefore be Super Mario Brothers 3 (the game that made Mario popular again and stays fun even 16 years after it originally came out). The high score winner in this game will, as always, win a game trinket from 'the vault' (or whatever I happen to pick-up at Hot Topic that day).

Bring your controllers and any games you wish to share. We will start off with a rousing Party Game to get everyone playing together and then we can play other things as the members wish. Pizza will be ordered at 7:30. Bring your dollars and beverages of your choice. Adult beverages are always welcome.

I am planning a December CHEET meeting that will be for kids as well as adults. A White Elephant gift exchange will be the event of the evening and 'kids' games will be the theme... i.e. no blood and gore or naughty violence allowed. I will post many more reminders as both dates draw nearer... and, as is typical, the dates may change up to two weeks before.

Also, good news: The museum has officially reached 25 different game systems/handhelds and 402 different games! We'll have plenty for you to do that night... trust me.

Hope to see you all there this September and, in the immortal words of Tom Beaudette: "We'll keep the NES on for you."

owowowowOWOWOWOW! OW!!!

Sorry for the lack of posting, folks... but I have had NASTY migraines all week at work and they have RUINED my week, lemme tell you. OW!

I will be taking some pictures this weekend. I'll post them when I get them. Hope y'all enjoy.

Great weekend...

Many many things to cover today, my friends.

My weekend was great. I got to play poker with some friends ($5.00 got you $2,000 worth of chips) on Saturday and got to sing a bit of karaoke.

Jen and I saw 'SKY HIGH' on Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed it. She also told me that the kids were contracted for a possible TV series as well. AND the trailer had a teaser for the new Harry Potter movie due out in November. GAH! I WANNA SEE IT!!!

I also rented a really great Chinese movie called 'Six Strong Guys'. It's a bit of a chick-flick, but... well, for guys. I really enjoyed it. It starts off with 4 friends who decide to throw themselves off of a building because of their 'terrible' lives, and they end up embracing life instead. Very good movie. I'm looking to buy it.

And Jojopedia.com strted up with rave reviews. On Monday I got over 500 hits.

I am anticipating a new Japanese Nintendo DS game that features Jotaro (Jojo #3) and Dio as characters. It's called "Jump Superstars". I pre-ordered it last month (as soon as I heard about it) and it is almost time for it to ship (ships on August 8th). Cannot wait.

******************

Now, for a bit of a rant. My mom emails me today and asks me if I could help her instal some webcams so she can watch her cat 'Petey'. Now, Pete has been real ill for quite some time, and this weekend she had a pretty bad scare.

It is my opinion that it is one of her other cats (Itzy) who is causing all this stress on poor Pete. Itzy is a mean cat that was once friendly. When my grandfather died Itzy (his cat) got nasty. My mom keeps him because he was Papa's cat.

So, I told her my thoughts on the subject:
***
Well, for the bad news: it is very expensive. You need a working computer, a web cam, broadband service (~$50 a month) and you need to make sure he's going to be in one spot (room) the entire time. To webcam the whole house would require more cameras and is a bad idea unless you plan on making money off of this yourself (an' I don't want people paying money to see my mom... GOT IT?!?! (little joke) ).

I know how much you love him, but mean Maggie and mean Itzy have screwed with him enough that he's really messed up mentally and he is drained. Him being so sick doesn't help. I can give you suggestions on what you need to do:

Step one: Itzy needs to go. Period. Find him a good family through PetsMart and he'll be ok, but since dad died Itzy has been a terror. He's a good 1 pet animal but he has screwed with Maggie and Pete enough. For 'Pete's sake' please find Itzy a new home. I was sent to Mamie & Papa's when I had problems because you couldn't deal with my problems and yours... and i'm better. You need to do the same for this, and it's the same thing. Saving him because he was dad's is NOT a good excuse for keeping a mean creature. I'm not kidding and i'm not sorry. He's not sweet, he's mean. He was nice to dad and he was nice to you AT FIRST... he then saw what a 'mark' you are and took control of the place.

Step two: Kennel Pete when you're out. He likes being out, but being bullied by Itzy is NOT helping him get healthy. Pete needs to be secure where he can't get hurt by a fight. If you're too concerned about him then you need to kennel him while you're out. If you don't like that idea then you should just keep on going as you have been.

Step three: Just keep what you're doing, but if he looks like he's in pain... you need to stop that pain. Euthenasia is legal for pets (not humans) who are in pain. Talk to your vet, but keeping him alive, just because you love him, is a mean thing to do.

I love you, but you may need to let go of some things. And being the 'cat lady' doesn't help your pocket-book or your love life, hun. (little jokey-poo). A webcam is not the best idea right now. You need to look out for you. And right now this isn't helping matters.

Love you MUCH more than you love me... call me if you need to talk tonight.
Jus

***
For me, I love my pups and think of them as family... but they are not humans and if one of them is hurting the other and I can't stop the behavior... they're out! Period! End of story!

"But would you do that to your own kids?" Some people may ask...

YES! Yes I would. If I could not handle them and, try as I may, I could not get them to behave... yes. They're gone! Send them to someone who can help them... because I can't.

Harsh? Perhaps.
Realistic? You bet. I know my limitations. If they are met and nothing is getting done... then off they go. Bye bye. Bye bye. Bye bye.

I am absolutely TERRIFIED of having children. Terrified. I roll the thought of having a vasectomy 'tomorrow' constantly... every day. "Oh, it's different when you have your own". No. No it's not. I would be a terrible father. Absolutely terrible. Why have children? No, really... why? To pass on a name? To make life just to make life? To please family? These are terrible reasons to have children. Why can't two people enjoy each other without having kids?

JEEZUS did I digress just now or what?! I'm so sorry.

Reactions? Am I a jerk? Feel the same as me? Anyone?

When Geocites has you... they won't let go!

I have been working on trying to re-direct people from my old geocities cite to the new one... but wow. Geocities must love me or something!

The script I use starts to transfer you in 15 seconds... but it keeps the annoying bar at the side! GAH! That sucks! Any ideas?

Almost there... stay on target...

If you get the above joke, then I applaud you.

Well I am, as the title states, almost there. I have put up all the character background stories, edited the FAQ to fit my page, uploaded a $h!+-load of pictures... now I just have to 'tweak'. My tweaks include (but are not limited to):

* making the stone images on the front page go down when they are rolled over
* getting scans of paper for the character areas
* moving some of the videogame information and images to the FAQ
...and whatever else people find.

Wish to help out? No knowledge of Jojo is necessary. Go to the following link and email me your thoughts both good and bad. Tell me how simple it is to navigate and how I can do things better. Is there anything you would like to see? Is there something that is very cool? Is there something you would like to help with that I just haven't thought of? Gimme it all.

Thanks a lot.

Wow. Just... just wow.

Late night post to let you all know the good news. But to tell you the good news I have to back-up a bit and give you some background.

Ok. Before my Jojo website was up, there was another website that had the best information for Jojo. It was pretty up-to-date and well visited. It was called, quite simply, the "Jojo FAQ". It was featured in a magazine or two. Very cool. Ok.

Come to find out that the guy who ran it (Jason) got a job with VIZ Comics. VIZ is the company that is translating Jojo's Bizarre Adventure into English. Well, tonight I got an email from none other than Jason:

Hello Noriaki,

I was thinking about your new website and I have a weird question for
you... would you be interested in taking over my JoJo FAQ for me? ;)

It's not that I'm tired of doing the FAQ... actually, the problem is that I am now working on the JoJo manga for Viz, and I'm worried that some Viz person might realize that I do the FAQ and get pissed off that I'm giving away semi-secret information. Also, I'm worried that I will be unable to objectively talk about the English version of the manga, since I work on it.

So, if you would like to take over the hosting of the FAQ, that'd be fine
by me. Feel free to modify it, although of course I'd prefer if you kept
my old version somewhere and credited me. ;)

Alternately, if you don't want to take over the FAQ, that's fine too. I
don't want to hit you with a big burden. Like I said, I'd be happy to keep
maintaining it (as much as I *do* maintain it... :/ ), but I'm just a
little anxious that it might be a conflict-of-interest now that I'm
actually working on the manga.

Let me know what you think!

Sincerely,
Jason

I think my heart stopped. I immediately sent a reply back saying yes. I'm going to keep the site the way he made it, link to the site directly from my new front page and... be the webmaster of two of the three largest Jojo FAQ sites in North America.

With my finishing the front page, spending some great quality time with my wife, finishing the new Harry Potter book, and doing well in computer Go... this has been a great weekend.

Phrickin' Phriday Photoblog

Derek does it. Heather does it. Collin sometimes does it. So I think i'll do it to. What is it? Falling in love? NO!

IT'S PHREAKIN' PHOTOBLOG PHRIDAY!

This week's theme? My beautiful wife. If you click on the images it will get bigger for you.

My friend Max and I made an entry for a Go contest sponsored by the AGA. We didn't win (I have NO clue why) but Jen posed for us.

This is Jen holding a monkey at a safari in Arkansas.

Heh... I said monkey.

This is my favorite. This is our 'first anniversary' tea at the 'Cat Bird Seat' in downtown Colorado Springs. We shared it with our best man and maid of honor Forrest and Nancy Oates. Jen and I dressed up as Alice and the Mad Hatter. I bought that tea pot for her anniversary gift.

This was her under the archway at the Cat Bird Seat.

She got her hands henna-ed at the Ren Faire last weekend, and they came out wonderfully. I took these so I could do it next time. She asked if they would take anything off since she only has 9 fingers. He laughed and took $5 off. WOO HOO!

A close-up version.

And this is what she wore to the Ren faire. She was a pixie! A very cute pixie... a very VERY cute pixie.

Style-sheet ah! It's a good thing. Style-sheets ah! What's a good thing?

HTML Note:
font size=6 is the same as point size 24
font size=2 is the same as point size 10

I was informed by my good friend Brad that what looked good on Firefox looked bad on Opera and IE. So I changed font and stuff.

And 'stylesheets'? They are a good thing. It saved me tons of scripting and with just a few lines of stylesheeting code on my html, I saved easilly 36 lines of html code. WOW!

Just and old fashioned webpage playing on my radio...

I have no clue why I keep titling my latest entries after 60's and 70's songs... maybe i'm just re-living my youth...

Anyways, I put some tables on the Jojo 7 website and slapped a temporary background over it. I wanted that page to not only be the nexus for the Steel Ball Run character descriptions but to keep people up to date as to the happenings, placements and other stuff. So I think a racing schedule would be appropriate. What do you all think?

I put the same background temporarilly on the Gyro Zepelli page too... just to see how it would look.

I'll be meeting with my friend Brad tonight to get the front page's white space gone-zo.

Tonight i'm gonna be playing Go to relax. We're going to be at the Pikes Perk on Vickers & Academy from 6:30-8:30 or so playing Go and working on the website... come on by if you like.

Wednesday, July 20, 2005

Link, link everywhere a link. Blockin' out the webpages, breaking my mind. Go here, don't go there, can't you see the link.

Well I was working hard on linkage for the front page and I learned SO much. Like the fact that even though you may put several images in a row... they won't necessarilly be flush side-by-side.

Took me 45 minutes to find out why I kept on getting 4 pixels in between each image. Wow. HTML is a tricky sister! But I got it and all the links beautiful and good. My friend Brad is gonna help me get the white space gone-gone and that'll mean it'll be all done for the NEW front page!

Try out the links. There's 10. Can you find them all? Go ahead... try them out! It is supposed to look like stone being pushed into the wall.

Next, i'm gonna work on the second page I need to do SOMETHING with. JOJO-7. This link sends people to the Steel Ball Run pages and shows how much race has been run. What I have so far... I hate. So now it's off to thinking what would look good.

To everything - scan scan scan - there is a season - scan scan scan

Well, I gotta make the August 1st deadline... I think I will, but there might be some skimping on some things... I have so many ideas and not the skill to implement them. I don't mean that I can't do it because I lack in art skills... not that but I lack in COMPUTER art skills. I have Adobe Photoshoppe 6 and I am teaching myself how to use it. It's not fun. I struggled for 45 minutes to put the lines in the new front page last night... wow. Hated that.

But, except for the links at the bottom, the front page is pretty much how I want it to look. And the better thing is that all the people who know about egyptology love it too.

Now I need to work on making the links (the bottom row images) look like they're going into the stone. That'll be Thursday's work. Tonight, I scan like a mad-man to get images from Steel Ball Run into the 'system'.

I got an icon I kinda' like. Been working the majority of the morning on putting it on the pages I have up already... in between work, that is.

Front page madness...

The new front page to the website is taking shape.

Favorite Icons: Favicon

Well, here's how to make them small itty bitty pictures that appear to the left of some URL sites.

1) Make an image that is 16x16. Make sure it is in 16 colors or this won't work.

2) Save it as a normal name (short if possible) and save it as a bitmap selection called an icon (.ico). For example: "favicon.ico"

3) Upload it to your main site.

4) Underneath the <head> brackets, add a new line and add: <LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.mydomain.com/myicon.ico">

5) Reload yer page. Unfortunately I cannot make a decent 16x16 icon for my site yet. All the ones I have made look crappy... so if anyone wants to help...

One page is getting there

For the next few weeks until August i'm going to be terribly busy with the rush at work and my work on the newly fabricated Jojopedia.com. So the majority of stuff I will be a quick diary post and/or Jojo stuff. Sorry. I know i'm terribly un-original...

Here's what I have so far for the Steel Ball Run character pages. The name of the newspaper will not be the Gazette Telegraph... that was just for placement of the banner.

Now as soon as I can figure out the html for putting the words to the top of the columns and to justify the text... i'll be sound as a pound. I'd also like to know how they put images to the left of the urls on certain websites. Like how this website (Blogger) has that orange box with the white 'B' inside of it.

New Web Browser

Well, I have been suggested by a few friends recently that if I am to surf safely on an IBM that I should NOT NEVER NO-HOW EVER EVER EVER use Internet Explorer.

Why? Well it seems that the nasties that people get are made specifically for people who use that browser. I asked some computer people in our building and they stated that they too use alternate browsers.

The one most highly suggested was FireFox. It's free, has lots of automatic stuff, and will transfer your links, history, and cache over so you don't lose anything in the transfer. So I downloaded it and am using it right now.

It's a bit strange to get used to, but I think I can handle it. And, you know me, the fewer buggies that get into my computer the better!

Another choice that was highly suggested from my friend Brad and another computer guy was Opera, but I think i'll work with Firefox.

Go cat, Go

Ok. Bad pun. But I have a lot of friends who are getting into the wonderful 4000 year old game of Go and I want to send them to some groovy sites.

*Interactive Go: This is the first site I send anyone who wants to learn how to play Go. This site teaches the rules and basic smart moves.

*Dragon Go Server: A play-by-email Go site. Great for playing from work or from home. I'm on as 'noriaki_kakyouin'. Let me know when you have signed up.

*Springs Go Club: The Colorado Springs Go Club. We meet Wednesdays and Thursdays.

*AGA: The American Go Association.

*CGoban 2: This can not only read SGF Go files that you can download but you can also play live online games.

*Gobase: This is one of the epicenters of the Go community. You can download many games here to review and replay. Also find out what's going on in the Go world as a whole.

*The Magic of Go: A weekly article written to help teach some essentials of Go. It can be confusing, but it is informative.

and lastly
*Hikaru no Go games: Hikaru no Go is a great Japanese manga that has gotten many new people to enjoy Go. It is currently being translated by VIZ comics into English and is available for $7.95 in good bookstores around town. The artist used actual games from history as the games Hikaru and the group would play. This site has found most of the games as SGF files and has them available for download.

I have the entire series as .jpg scanlations if you want a copy.

A LETTER FROM PENN JILLETTE

There's a movie coming out this month called The Aristocrats. The movie has such strong content - in language only - that it's being released unrated. And of course some of the usual right wing pundits have had to get their say in about how filthy it all is. So Penn Jillette, who made the film along with Paul Provenza, has penned this open letter:

The Aristocrats: Everyone Who Sees this Movie, Will Love It

By filmmaker, Penn Jillette

That’s my goal. I want everyone who sees our movie, “The Aristocrats” to enjoy it. I really do. So far we’ve done a really good job. We’ve had only a few people walk out, and most everyone else seemed to have a great time. Certainly a higher percentage of people who’ve seen our movie liked it than the percentage of people who liked “Lord of the Rings.” One reason is that “Lord of the Rings” sucks and our movie is good. But more importantly, everyone is supposed to like “Lord of the Rings.” They made it for everyone, because everyone has all the money. We didn’t make “The Aristocrats” for everyone; we made it for our friends.

You can tell right away our flick ain’t for everyone. Our movie uses that four letter word that begins with “C.” Our movie uses that word a lot. A way lot. You know the word; it’s the word you say and everyone is automatically sexually harassed. A hostile work environment in one word. It’s the word that adults call “The C word” in front of other adults. Adults who say every other dirty word as every part of speech won’t say that goddamn C word. When Aristocrats say the C word in the movie, it’s worse than just using the C word. We don’t use it in anger or as a mere ejaculation. We don’t even use it as synecdoche. The Aristocrats mean it as the real thing. We’re not just using dirty words; we’re using dirty images, and dirty ideas. And even worse, we’re doing it just for fun. Just for a laugh. The movie’s not for everyone.

“Don’t say shit in front of a C. H. I. L. D.” - Kinky Friedman

Think of the most disgusting images you can. Think of the worst scatological and non-consensual sex you can. Imagine children. Imagine young children. Imagine children that are related to each other. Children who are related to you. Imagine animals. Young endangered animals who are related to each other. Young endangered animals who are related to you. Nope, you’re not even close. The movie has over 100 professionals. They are much more disgusting than you can ever be, that’s because they’re professionals.

The movie is a lot more than dirty words and disgusting images. The taboo language is not even the main thrust; the main thrust is a movie with no nudity, no violence, and no conflict. It’s a movie about laughing with your friends. It’s very political because it’s not political at all. The Aristocrats just take for granted they can say anything they want. Fighting for freedom is a losing battle. Taking liberty is what real Americans do. It’s a love story, it’s political, it’s patriotic, it’s funny, funny, funny, funny, funny, funny. But, you shouldn’t see it if you’ve ever been offended by any word ever ever.

If you’re going to be offended don’t bother coming. It was a cheap movie to make. We don’t need everyone’s money. We have other jobs. Our asses aren’t on the line. If you think you’re going to like this movie, please, you’re invited. If you’re in Vegas and you meet me, I’ll show it to you for free over my house. My wife and I will serve popcorn. But, if you you’ve EVER been offended by any joke, read a book, I suggest “Moby Dick.”

Michael Moore and Mel Gibson are the same person, except for a few sit-ups. Moore thought his cheesy political blooper reel was going to tell people how to vote. Mel thought that his little gay SM movie about his imaginary friend was going to help him get to heaven. George W. Bush is president and there’s still no god. You failed boys. Someone should have told Mike that the bad guys are smarter than him and someone should have told Mel that the Three Stooges were Jewish.

Both those filthy rich losers wanted EVERYONE to see their movies. Moore wanted the Republicans to be shocked by how wrong they were and see the light shining out of his fat ass. Mel went for straight off the rack proselytizing. They both just got even richer.

I’m already richer than I should be. I don’t want to shock or offend anyone who doesn’t enjoy being shocked and offended. I want to make people laugh and love life and love watching all my friends making each other laugh.

So, IF YOU HAVE EVER EVER EVER BEEN OFFENDED BY ANY JOKE – DO NOT SEE THE ARISTOCRATS! If you think you might be offended by our movie, why don’t you go see “Lord of the Rings?” (in other words: go to hell.)

And then -- everyone who sees our movie will love it.

We all hold something in...

I just read what Collin posted on his blog and felt the need to post here as well. His experience is far worse than I have felt... but when I did hate... I hated well.

To begin with, may I say that I believe, in part, of the ancient Egyptian idea that if you wipe a person's name from history they will cease to exist. Names have some sort of power. So I don't mention his name. I called him my 'nemesis' at one time because he really was the Moriarty to my Holmes. We were SO similar it was just wrong. We liked the same things, did similar acts, and had similar thoughts. He just went down a path I could have... but didn't.

I had a nemesis.

I'm a firm believer in freudenschade. I love it. I, sometimes, never feel better than when someone who deserves to feel pain... does. And I got to thinking: maybe that's why I pity my "ex-nemesis". I have used the help and support given to me without spitting it back into the faces of my family and friends. I am on my feet debt free. I have a great wife. I have a house. I have a great job. And he?

He's really having a bad time in his life right now: can't hold a job down, lives from place to place, is poorer than shite, people that once trusted him now dis-PISE him, his cleptomania is getting the better of him and he's falling down and down... and his lies no longer work to protect him. Very bad things.

A nemesis is someone who just keeps on hurting you. Now, he can't even take care of himself enough to pay his collecting bills and mounting debts.

Heh. Good.

I'm not angry anymore, though. I just feel pity. Freudenschade and pity.

She got me!

Long story short, I told my wife how I saw a skunk and her two babies down on Colorado and 14th. I thought they were so cute and she said that she wanted one. I told her it's be ok if their stink gland was removed. She said 'really?' and I said, "Yeah, why not? But where are you gonna find one?"

"EBAY!" she exclaimed.

'Yeah, right...' I thought.

So today she sends me a screenshot from ebay...

HERE

It was hard to believe because of the image having so many problems (my trained artistic eye): lines cut off, black patches near the title, out-of-sync words and letters... but it was the text description got me thinking that maybe it was real and the weird distortions is her computer or something (me being nieve). But why would ebay allow this? You're not supposed to sell live creatures on ebay. I sent her an email asking her if she really wanted to drive to Arkansas I was all for getting it (wow... am I a sucker!).

I called a co-worker over to my computer and showed her the image. She asked if there was more about it, so I went to ebay and typed in the ebay item number...

ZING! ARGH!!! She got me!

Funny thing is that she did this joke all by herself, art and all. She never ceases to amaze me. I really am lucky to have such a cool wife.

Now I plot my revenge (laughs)

JOJO IS HERE!!!

Well, in the latest edition (August 2005/#32) of Shonen Jump, at least.

The manga translation offers the first chapter of the book (that comes out next month) in this edition. So far I was worried about the translation and editing, but I must say that they have done a very decent job at translating and making it SOUND like it hasn't been translated while keeping true to the text. They shortened a bit of the dialogue, but it flows nicely and gets the point across well. For an English translation I was expecting something different, but this... this is ok.

In the book that will come out next month... Noriaki Kakyouin makes his appearance. This is my favorite character from the series and you'll be able to see why I use 'his' name.

I am SO excited about this, you cannot even imagine. Some people have been following rock stars and get absolutely giddy when they see them, even from far away. Other people feel that way about places and animals. For me, it's this manga. I have been patiently waiting since 1989 (the first time I read it in the Japanese Shonen Jump Weekly) for this time. It's just a book, I know... but it's MY book! JOJOOOOOO!

Another weekend runied because of my inability to read instructions.

Well, the party I was going to go to this 4th was actually taking place on the 3rd... so I missed it. I read the email wrong. So I'm staying at home working on the website. I feel really bad about letting everyone down... especially my wife. We were both really excited to go... but I fu&%ed up... dammit.

I'm really beginning to wonder if I have some sort of reading disability as this happens all the time. No kidding. I'm not feeling sorry for myself. I really wonder if I have an inability to read some things correctly.

On the upsides,

I had a marvellous time playing poker and singing karaoke with Derek and the gang on Saturday and the hunt for the 'Coyote Treasure' is starting today (7/4/2005).

Grand Opening: August 1st 2005

So in anticipation of the new Jojo website i'm making, for those of you who visit me, I am going to show you bits of what I have planned for www.jojopedia.com!

I will have hidden links to interviews and downloads complete with 'stone-grinding' sounds when you depress a link. I will also have the 'Steel Ball Run' (the newest comic) site as a newspaper from 1890 written as though a reporter was following the race... complete with authentic ads from the 1800's.

These pages will change and merge as I get closer to the August 1st deadline so please feel free to leave your comments and visit the areas every week to see what has changed. I will be adding these links to the sidebar on Monday.

Link #1: Index-2003 (this is what I was thinking of in August of 2003 when I knew I wanted to change the front page)

Link #2: Wall 8 (this is what I mocked up last year with 'egyptian images' of Noriaki Kakyouin and Jonathan Joestar holding Dio's head)

Link #3: Jojo 7 (This is the main link to the current story of 'Steel Ball Run')

Link #4: Gyro Zepelli (This is a mock-up of the character pages. This will change greatly in the next few weeks)

Another quiz because I have nothing else for all you happy people on a busy Friday afternoon

Stolen from Heather (thank you Heather)
*********
A - Age you lost your virginity? - 15

B - Band listening to right now? - Billy Corgan

C - Dream car? - one that works...

D - Dad's name? - by birth: Craig Vincent Patrick, from raising/loving me: Dale Wheeler Carmical.

Dale ('Papa' as I called him) is really my grandfather, but he raised me when I lived with them from 1983-2000. He was like a father to me and we did all the dad-son sorts of things we could. Scouts, fighting, fishing, fighting, woodworking, fist-fighting (well, almost), metalsmithing, fighting... He was my biggest fan: he would go into my room when I was out, get my drawings and sketches, and show them to his neighbor friends to 'show-off'... THAT'S how cool he was.

Late in 2000 I wrote a letter to him, told him how much I missed him and 'Mamie' (Elsie: my grandmother)... told him how I felt and asked him if I could call him 'Dad' from now on since he is really more like a father to me than like a grandfather. I was afraid he would say no.

When I talked to them later that week. I said 'hello'... and he replied 'Hello, son' (he never called me that or anything similar before). And ever since then I called him 'Dad' and he called me 'Son'. It bothers my mom (she's nervous about the 'incestuous' undertones it 'might' have), but I don't care.

He's my 'Dad' by choice not by birth, everyone knows it, and I'm damn lucky to have known him. He was an awesome guy. I miss him an awful lot.

E - Easiest person to make me laugh? - Forrest Oates

F - Food you miss most? - Simply because Heather mentioned it: Chick-Fil-A

G - Any encounters with ghosts? - In Florida I encountered LOTS of encounters. The one that most comes to mind was when I woke up and heard a family come into the house. I heard a dog running around and ran into the door (as excited dogs will do). So I decided to get up. I put on my pants and opened the door... the house was empty. Nobody was in since the previous night!

H - Person most hated at the moment? - Nobody. I used to hate a guy (called him my 'nemesis' because he so much like me if I had been... well... evil) but now I just pity him. I NEED A NEW NEMESIS!

I - Interesting unknown fact about yourself? - I masturbate more than anyone else in the universe.

J - The first letter of the last person who broke your heart? - "L"

L - Last time you did LSD? - Never did LSD. Smoked my last weed in 2002, though.

M - Most memorable moment you can think of in a minute? - My 33rd Birthday. Being with all my friends and family that evening was one of the best nights of my entire life.

N - Nicknames? - 'J-Man', 'J', Prof. Noriaki Kakyouin (someone dubbed me that in an email), and 'rabbi'

O - What's the most valued possession? - My wife and then my friendships. Physically: my Jojo manga collection, but physical items can be replaced. Thank you ebay!

P - Poison of choice? - Collin introduced me to this on my 21st birthday and it's been my staple ever since: Vodka Collins.

Q - The last quote you heard: "TGIF." - Last Friday on ABC

R - What are you allergic to? - Poultry (eaten), fish (eaten), animal dander (breathed). I take Benedril for the eaten stuff and Claritin and Sudafed for the dander.

S - Song you sang last? - "The Impression That I Get" at karaoke.

T - Time you woke up? - 6:55am

U - Fav. pair of underwear? - Whatever my wife is wearing right now. (wink). OH ON ME?!?! Oh... I don't have a pair. I just started wearing them again recently.

V - Vegetable you hate most? - Pickled beets.

W - What are you the most afraid of? - Spiders

X - X-rated love life? - Well, let me just say that I got a 33% on the last purity test I took (lower % is worse).

Y - Year you were born? 1971

Z - Zodiac sign? Aries

Um....

www.roosack.com

I cannot think of anything to say here.

It's the Gawd's honest truth. My friend Forrest Oates just got his in the mail. I held it. No joke, just a... wow... yeah. Nuff said.

It's the small things...

So many smallm things have been happening as of late.

First and foremost I have officially purchased "www.Jojopedia.com" for my fansite's new home for the next five years. The official 'GRAND OPENING' will be on August 1st and will feature a new front page and a spiffy new area for Jojo #7 (Steel Ball Run) that i'm working very hard on completing.

Next, MY COMPUTER SHAT ON ME! Yes, I got a virus. I hate those things. This made everything become overclocked and melted my system. Thank you to the turd who sent it to me or put it up for me to download (probably was at a porn site I visited... did I say that with my outside voice?). So I have no computer to finish my site. I may have to ask someone to help me. Click on the link below to pound your computer into the ground!

Continuing in the reign of disaster I fried my wife's computer. This time I wasn't looking for porn (did I say that again out-loud?) but trying to clean her system from viruses and infectuous beasties. Luckilly my friend Brad fixed it all by "wiping it clean by the wrath of Gawd" and having us start from square-one with a computer with nothing on it. WOW! It runs fast now!

I'm thinking of getting a Mac. It was actually the second computer I ever owned (a Mac IISI... my first was a Commidore 64), and I kinda' miss the simplicity. However they are expensive at $500 for a base mini mac... and that doesn't even come with monitor, keyboard or mouse! Whereas a new Dell PC is $299 with everything. Very difficult to decide.

Breaking the 'losing streak', I celebrated my one-year anniversary last night! Wow. Married one year. Time flies.

And lastly, I have found another artist that I like. His name is Kurt Halsey. Check him out. It's interesting... very nice.

Real quick today

Lots to do at work today so i'll just post this PG-13 game.

Ok, a bit tasteless, but gimme a break! I've been gone for 2 weeks! I'll post better things tomorrow.

My wife muses on Chicago with this poem:

This is Chicago

This is Chicago…I’ve never been. Colorado girl I can drink the air here. Came into Illinois and my first thought was Bradbury’s happiness machine. Pay the tolls and here we are.

This is Chicago…the traffic like hotwheels zipping by, people step off the curbs and into the street without looking, taxi cabs look like police cars and police cars look like taxi cabs. Lincoln Park, the birds aren’t afraid, ducks and geese and pigeons and finches, they take the bread from your hand. Like the people with the cars, they’re not afraid. Zoo where the seals swim upside down and have Mad Hatter eyes. Exotic birds flying overhead whistling to you and names to match their beauty: bleeding heart pigeon, blue fairy, emerald jewel bird. Alien looking plants in the conservatory. And the people: slender boys, a cop with tattoos all down his arms, and a girl on a yellow bicycle with a brown ribbon around her neck, so beautiful I wanted to take her picture, wanted to be her and ride a yellow bicycle all over the city. Crowded into the back of Second City with two women from Oregon, laughter, pictures of comedians on the walls, know-who-this-is?

This is Chicago…in the Museum of Science and Industry we watched chicks hatch, I’d never. There was blood in the egg, not what I’d expected. I was a child in awe. Giant train models, a video game exhibition, pong, asteroids, pac-man, current games and new ones. My husband in rapture. A giant heart, the most magnificent doll house in the world, Buster Keaton movies, so much more. Navy Pier. Parking costs atrocious. The stained glass gallery, my favorite the angel at the gates of heaven. Walking through Old Town for supper and you can have any type of food you want, omg the food!

This is Chicago…we’ve wised up and left the car at the hotel. Free admission to the Art Institute on Tuesdays, paintings I’ve stared at in books I stare at now in person, the books did them no justice, only gave an inkling. In the gift shop I buy post cards of our favorites, some we’d never seen before, I want to put them in a shadow box at home and have my own miniature museum. In Chinatown we have wonderful dim sum, lotus root buns, sesame and red bean rolls, gooey dumplings, delicious. Wrigley at 7:00. You BET I made sure we brought the tickets with us, nice people scoot over so we can sit together and won’t let us buy them a drink, insisting it’s a “common courtesy”. And what a game, Cubs 14-0. Felt bad for Florida, zero and zero until the 4th then Lee hits it just short of a homer in right field, so Ramirez gets the first homerun and it’s 3 runs that inning, then Lee nails that homerun in the 6th, Ramirez too, and the 8th is amazing. Lee two homeruns, Ramirez two homeruns, and number 8 (forgot his name) also got one. Eee!

This is Chicago…the Field Museum has a door to take you to ancient Egypt, mummies of people, cats, and falcons, the book of the dead on papyrus. We don’t shop much, the stores are expensive, even so-called discount stores. In Greektown though, oh…lamb and grape leaves and spinach-feta pie, beautiful triptychs and diptychs in the windows, pastries with chocolate and cream and honey and cinnamon. Anywhere you look, all over the city, there are pieces of art in the stained glass windows and carved into the buildings. People really like their dogs here and walk them down the crowded streets.

This is Chicago…the last day. I make a sand angel on the beach. Lake Michigan much too cold to swim in, colder even than the mountain lakes in Colorado. The Billy Goat Tavern where it’s no glam, no souvenirs, just cheezborger, cheezborger, you want hamburger? no single, double, we do double today, and old articles on the walls of the sweet man that started it. Magnificent Mile where the prices are more what you’d expect and I take a picture of a girl working as a living statue, give her a buck, she gives me a fortune and a wink. I wonder how people get that occupation, seriously. Hershey’s and the Downtown Dog for a bite to eat. My husband goes back to the hotel, he doesn’t like it much. So I wander on my own in Lincoln Park, discover the lily pond like a Monet painting, decide which building I’d like to live in if I could afford it (2120 Lincoln Avenue West), and say goodbye to Olivia’s bench by the Shakespeare Garden where I spent the most time here just hanging out.

This is Chicago…my husband says he’s glad he saw some things here, but he’ll never come back, that I can come back on my own if I want to…and I want to.

I hate it there...

I'm back from my trip to Chicago. I am still taking another week off so I can do some real relaxing because, DAMN, I really didn't like Chicago.

Greektown was nice as was Chinatown, some of the restaurants were nice (extremely overpriced, but nice), and we saw a lot of cool things that you could only find in Chicago.

BUT... the stuff in-between (75% of Chicago) just put me ill at ease. Let me describe it by paraphrasing the words of a one Spider Jerusalem:

"I hate it here.

I hate the way it smells(go to a McDonalds on a summer day and poke your nose into their dumpster at 3:00pm and take a whiff... that's almost all of Chicago). I hate the way it looks. I hate the way it thinks. I hate the things it does to itself. I hate the way it loves me and I hate the way it makes me feel. I hate it here."

I liked some people I met and some of the places I went... but the town as a whole? They can have it! Give me the Springs any day.

I'll post more as the week gets on.

Friday, June 10, 2005

Like Bob and Bing, we're off...

Well, we're off to Chicago. We leave tomorrow (the 11th) and get back on the 19th.

Weekend links

Every Friday Heather and Derek post pics... although Derek is off this week... I post links I found/had forwarded to me. I get quite a few, but I post my favorites. And all the links are work safe.

Karaoke dreams

Let me fill you in on a bit of background:

When I decided that I would become a Japanese Language major in college my aunt Ronda gave me some very good advice that I took to heart. It was this: "If you set out to learn something... learn everything you can relating to that subject." So I did. I not only took the classes and got into the history of Japan and took many culture classes, but I hung out at a Japanese video store called MINOWA (it's no longer there at the corner of Murray and Galley). The ladies there were wonderful and helped me learn a lot. They introduced me to games, tv shows, colloquialisms, and (most importantly) music.

I listened to many groups now considered J-Pop and many of the classics. I bought lots of CDs and have my favorites. I dreamt of singing them at karaoke someday.

NOW TO THE PRESENT

My friend Derek owns his own karaoke set-up and, as I mentioned last week, I love karaoke. So he sent me a website to visit that I can buy Japanese karaoke disks from.

I am writing because almost every single song I loved is at this store. Anzen Chitai, Lindberg, Chage & Aska, The Boom, Kome Kome Club, X-Japan, and Koji Tamaki, Spitz... they're all there and so much more.

Derek, thank you SO much. In a few months when you have karaoke night again I will be armed!

Flash Gear

http://www.flash-gear.com/

Very cool stuff. You can make flash puzzles to send to friends and loved ones.

This message is for Go players in the Springs

Ok. So my friend who plays 'Go' as religiously as I do (Karen) and I went to the Go club meeting in Denver last night and I came to the following conclusion: she was right and I was wrong. THERE! I said it!

I played some of the players there and did amazingly well. But it really wasn't any luck or problems with their play. It really was the skill I have from playing in the Springs.

My first game was against a player pushing shodan at nine stones and lost by only 12 points. It was a very good game. My next was against an 8k player at 4 stones who resigned after around 90 plays (He ((Adam)) told me that if I come up to Denver and declare myself as anything less than 12k he'll call me a 'dirty sandbagger' out loud). The shodan pusher agreed that, from our game, 12k was a good rank. Lastly I played another 8-10k player at 4 stones and won by 40+ stones. She completely agreed that I was either 13 or 12k.

It seemed they all talked (during their cigarette break) about the skills of 'the Springs people', how we under-rate ourselves too much, and how strong we really are (I sensed a bit of fear in their voices YAY S.G.C.!). I chatted with them a short time and we all agree:

Tom is 5k at the very least. (I am struggling in our games at 5 stones where I did not get the same 'presence' from the 4 stone games in Denver)
Brad is 13k easily.
Karen is a 13k.
Max is 13k.

Now, you may be asking yourselves "What drugs is he taking and how much did they pay him to say these things?" But I assure you all that I say this honestly and with much thought (and thin pocket-book). You all know that I have been the strictest of proponents of staying in my league and not saying I'm something I'm not. Also, my '15k by congress' goal is important that I don't skip ranks just because... so I watch my rank carefully and judge appropriately.

But I also know that they have several Dan masters (most of whom have been playing this game literally all their lives) who rank them in personal games according to their skills... so they really do know what their strengths are. We only play each other and so grow at the same rates, for the most part, and so don't see any progression when, in fact, we grow by leaps and bounds.

I would encourage you all to come with us next time we go up. It would be a nice change of pace to play people you are not used to and, the first Tuesday of every month, Master Lee gives a 30 stone opening lecture that is incredibly useful for kyu and Dan players alike.

Hopefully this report will encourage some of you Max to come more often and stay a while. You really do have skills and are growing in rank... it's just that we don't see it in our small club on Thursdays.

See you all Thursday at the Pikes Perk.

We gonna dance all night to this DJ

On Japanese TV whenever they have a commercial with a song, they have a small blurb somewhere on the screen of the song and the artist who does it.

Well, there have been some groovy songs that have been on TV commercials lately and I feel that my wife is getting sick of me saying "Wow. I really like that song!"

Today I found one I was looking for. It's from a recent Diet Coke commercial and i'm diggin' it!

Starry Eyed Surprise by Paul Oakenfold

You can watch the video for free from the above link. What commercials have songs that you wanna groove to but don't know the name of?

In search of Jojopedia.com

As stated previously I am searching for a decent and inexpensive domain site to send people to for my Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fansite. I have been mulling over 2Ya.com for a week now, but my friend Collin just sent me a new possibility: Yahoo Small Business.

The email he sent me stated a $4.95 per year special offer from their normal $9.95 per year offer. And, this offer extends for up to 5 years if you want. Meaning that you can choose to do a shorter time and still pay $4.95 per year. When I looked at the 'fine print' it only stated that this offer was for new customers and that a waived sign-up fee is also applicable. The only 'catch' is that you have to pay for your year(s) when you sign up. Not bad. That means that I could pay $24.90 immediately for 5 years of service and not have to pay again for another 5 years. Pretty sweet.

They even got a 4.5 rating on PC Magazine's online customer report page. Not bad. So far this is the best offer I have seen... and it doesn't expire until September. I think this is the plan I will go with.

Collin, HAIL 2 U!

****************

On a side note, my wife writes poetry. I don't "get" a lot of poetry and it is very difficult for me to appreciate what she writes. But she's good. She was part of a NATIONAL poetry thing when she was in High School. The only way to get into it was to be invited. VERY AWESOME.

Well, she wrote a new one on her blog and I really dig it. It's one of the few poems that I think is something I enjoy. I would encourage you all to go to her site and check it out. It's titled 'Fallen'.

Jojo on the brain/10 things

Man, I have just been eating, breathing, and sleeping Jojo as of late.

For those of you who don't know, 'Jojo's Bizarre Adventure' is a Japanese comic/manga that I got into in 1989 when I first started reading weekly Japanese manga before it hit big-time in the mid-90's. I have been passionate about it for quite some time and had a geocities fan-site since 2001 that shut down every day because so many people were visiting it. It even got translated into Italian by an Italian Jojo fan who contacted me.

Now that I have a good job and some tech-know information I transferred my main site to a free.pgs cite with unlimited bandwidth... and i'm updating the heck out of it.

This is really happening because Jojo is FINALLY getting translated into english by VIZ (I think I wrote about this). But I have also been getting offers and offering to host fan translated stuff for the new story (Steel Ball Run) on my new site.

I'm also looking at getting the domain name 'www.jojopedia.com'. There's a domain place that offers names for $20 a year... and it looks pretty sweet.

I'm such a Jojo geek at this very moment that I have all my Jojo figures (sigh) at work sitting on the shelf... I feel so much like Napoleon Dynamite right now... GAW! (head turns quickly)

And stealing from Heather is '10 Things you did not know about me'

10)I hate pickled beets. Yes, that red-juiced beet stuff... hate it.

9)I am privaledged enough to have seen all 6 Star Wars movies in the theatre when they first were released.

8)When I write I spell the words colour and armour like this and I cross my 7s and Zs.

7)When I was in 2nd grade I gave a speech on Egyptology to my 2nd grade class (had slides and everything). It went off so well I was asked to give it to the 6th grade class at my elementary school later that week. My mom was going to school for Egyptology and just got back from the Tutankhamun exhibit.

6)I got into anime and manga in 1988.

5)Since I was 16, I have always had a summer job.

4)I have always been the runt of my school. Not a class... the SCHOOL! I had my first 'fight' when I was in 9th grade. I lost, but I fought back (hence it being a 'fight' and not a 'beating' which I am all too familiar with). It was the first time I ever fought back. He was suspended for the rest of the school year (2 weeks) and I wasn't.

3)I was the 'Chaplain' of my troop in my Boy Scout days. I also held the post of 'Scribe', 'Assistant Troop Leader', and 'Troop Leader'. I also got my 'God and Country' award, yet I never achieved rank higher than 'Second Class'.

2)I used to bartend (for 3 months) at Deja Vu in 1994. My grandparents thought I worked at 7-11.

1)I'm pretty honest and open about my past and so it was difficult to find '10 things' to talk about.

My wife got me an early Anniversary gift...

I got a Kilt this weekend!

Jen has been asking me what I would like for an anniversary gift, and I haden't a clue. Then, last week (Thursday I think), I had a dream.

I deamt that I wore kilts other than jeans. I had 4 sports kilts (lighter weight kilts), one nice dress kilt (like I got married in), and 1 pair of levis and 1 dress slacks. And I wore kilts all the time.

I woke up and told her that I wanted a sports kilt for our anniversary.

So, we were walking at Territory Days on Sunday and we happened by the Celtic Broker booth. He had sports kilts for $89 and $99. I thought about how much I could spend, and I thought that I had enough. So I start to get my wallet out and then Jen gets out her credit card and tells me "Happy early anniversary". I LOVE THIS WOMAN!

So I have been wearing it everywhere. I wore it all Saturday, Memorial day, and I wore it today to work. It's been very awesome and I will get more and wear them more. Dunno if i'll wear them like I did in the dream (all the time)... we'll see...
***********
Also, my friend Josh is going to California to live for a while and is going to have a Karaoke night on Saturday evening at a bar on Academy and Dublin. I love karaoke.

Normal songs I sing at karaoke bars:
Mac The Knife (always start with this), China Girl, I'm Too Sexy (in a Scottish-accent), Short Skirt/Long Jacket... wow.

I need to get new songs in my repitoire! I would L-O-V-E to find someone who does 'Under Pressure' well enough to do a duet... like David Bowie and Annie Lennox did at the Freddie Mercury benefit concert. AH! I'll never forget the way they did it. Wow.
***********
And congratulations to my good friend Trevor for graduating High-School. I didn't make the ceremony, but I have a graduation gift for him when we have a new CHEET night. He got me the 'Kingdom Hearts' soundtrack for the hollidays... VERY cool. Collin and Trev always get me such nice gifts.

GORILLAZ: Try before you buy... legally!

There's an area that has the new Gorillaz album where you can listen to the whole thing in streaming audio before it hits the shelves this Tuesday.

http://www.mtvu.com/music/the_leak/gorillaz/demon_days/

I posted my thoughts on the comment area.

And if you haven't watched the new video... shame on you! It's one of the two new iPod commercials as well. Very good song worthy of being a single.

What Does Willpower Mean To You?

I got a new ring today. I don't ususally wear jewelry, but I really wanted one of these rings for, well, let's say personal reasons.

So I bought this ring off of ebay for $8.00, got it in the mail today, and am wearing it as we speak. I really want one with green in it, but this will work for now. There are some other cool ones out there, but this'll do in a pinch.

I chose the Green Lantern's ring because of its association with willpower. Willpower is something I have very little of and need more of... so you might say that I got this ring to kind of help me when I feel weak (jeezus this sounds geeky) to remind myself to stay strong. It's very embarassing to write about, but I hope this will help a bit.

Photos

Interesting. This lady takes a picture (almost) every day at noon and then posts it on her livejournal. I also see that my friend Heather is trying to photoblog more often now as well. Hmmm... do "I" do enough I wonder? Could I do something neat and cool everyday with my digital camera? hmmm.... any ideas?

cough cough cough

Got a really funny video today from Nancy. It's the song "TORN" for the deaf.

ENJOY

Seeing the doctor today at 4:15pm to hopefully get rid of this throat virus thingy before too long. MAN, this has been annoying!

Also, I have more images for Noriaki Kakyouin to the side. Found out that they do not sell the Garnier Manga Head gunk here in the USA... but a similar item that the lady at Garnier told me about is their 'Surf Hair' goo-stuff. So i'll be getting some of that and some images up of me as Noriaki soon hopefully.

And lastly, speaking of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, VIZ comics is putting them out here in America this year as part of their "Shonen Jump Advanced" series! YAH! Now you all can read the actual mangas and see why I call Jojo's Bizarre Adventure my favorite manga story since 1989 when I first read it! If nothing else, go to the sidebar and visit my Jojo fansite to read a bit more about it.

But, is it art?

Salvador Dali.

It took looking at Dali to appreciate this kind of art. In a college drawing class of mine at UCCS (now CU the Springs) there was a student who was trying to be original. He actually sucked (my opinion) as he would try for 'conceptual art' instead of doing the f@$king project given. And he always got 'ooh's and 'ahh's from his fellow classmates... except me. And then one day he COMPLETELY didn't do the project the way it was told to be done, and people were fawning all over it. And for the first time the prof asked me what I thought of his work.

I said, at first, "He didn't do the project."

She smirked, "What do you mean?" I think she was expecting the next comment I made.

"Well, the project was to take one of our previous life drawings, re-draw it and incorporate it into a famous artwork with a phrase or word. All he did was take his previous life drawings, cut off their heads, glued them onto the paper to form the edge of a cliff, put one to look like he's being crucified and splattered a word across it with paint. He got the word part right, but he got everything else wrong and I think he should have to do it over. I spent two weeks on mine, and I have seen him not doing anything the whole time. He probably did it all today." (come to find out I was correct)

Silence filled the room as jaws dropped and eyes turned to the artwork again to go over it.

"Well, let's move on," the prof. stated.

Not only was he NOT forced to re-do it, but he got an 'A' on the piece of trash. I got an 'A' as well, but I think that was to shut me up. Come to find out my mother had a similar event in one of her art classes in Boulder... but that's another rant.

Needless to say I have NEVER understood 'conceptual art' or 'surrealism'. I think it's junk... something made because the artist is too f*^king lazy, and people LOVE it. I still don't get it most of the time... but I know what I like. And I likes me some Dali.
I also like Rene Magritte. Some beautiful art... and it's pretty conceptual.

Also, Michael Parkes is someone I have bought prints of. Wonderful fantasy surrealism.

Recently, I visited a site that had original art of the surrealist kind. Conceptual. And, surprisingly, I liked it. His name's Mark Ryden. It's goth/surrealism in my opinion.
Mark Ryden

And to send you on your weekend... here's the SON OF GAWD BEEYOTCH!!!
"Mean Gene, i'm gonna tear me up some Roman villas. I gots me a 55 gallon drum of 'WHOOP-ASS' and i'm gonna open it on dem all, and that's the bottom line because the big JC says so!"

Stuff Collin sent me yesterday

Collin and I send eachother links occasionally. He must have been on a roll last night because I got some groovy sites.

#1) GARNIER MANGA GELL

Yes, you too can have manga-like hair with this product! Hey, my hair's long enough... maybe I should get some of this stuff and take some pictures like my Noriaki character... hmmm

#2) FREE GRAPH PAPER

Gamers, fret no more. You don't need to buy graph paper for your gaming needs ever again!

#3) KATAMARI DAMACY CREATOR SPEAKS OUT

A one hour video of the creator's thoughts. Pretty fun... especially if you have played the game. Katamari Damacy 2 is coming out soon...

#4) VINTAGE COVERS

Not something Collin sent me, but fun nontheless... covers from men-magazines from yesteryear. No worries... they're safe.

My, grandma... what big... um...

So there's this commercial in Japan for a construction company. They have a funny funny commercial with a 'Little Red Riding Hood' theme. I was lucky enough to find this gif of one of the characters. It's a Japanese badger known as a tanuki.

Anabu-kin-chan

This site has the full commercial. You will need Quicktime, though.

Rev. Tim McIntire

Ok. So when I began to live with my grandparents in 1983, we had a couple of neighbor boys whom my grandmother wanted me to play with. They thought that since I was an idiot (well, back in those days I was...) it might be fun to tease me sometimes. And I took it... because they were nice to me sometimes. We were kids... One was named Tim McIntire. He was a pretty funny guy.

The biggest tease was them letting me into their (cough) "club". Now, I didn't know what an 'anus' was... and so when I was being 'initiated into the "Royal Tiger's Anus Club" I had no clue... enough said... you get the idea.

Anyhoo... I was listening to the internet comedy station and heard this really funny guy and sure as $HIT it was Tim. Come to find out he's a big comedy guy in Boston now and is doing pretty well.

I just wanted to post his website here because he's a former-local funny funny guy whom I happen to have been personally a 'friend' of (smile). Good to see that he's doing well.

Grace's Movie

I used to tutor Japanese. My favorite student, Grace, is currently attending DU in Denver for an Art degree. She's taking a 3-d art class and just finished this movie.

I'm really proud of her.

HERE

Eclectic Music Choices

When people ask me what kind of music I like I tell them everything... to a point. And I really mean it. It's actually more of a 'how long can you tolerate this kind of music' thing. I let almost every song I her for the first time get 1:45 of my time. If I REALLY hate it then i'll turn it otherwise i'll give anything a chance.

Well, since Collin put up his post last night I have been thinking about strange music groups. Not strange in a Weird-Al strange... or even necessarilly an Aquabats strange... a few of these are real serious groups. Maybe 'indy' would be a better term. Here's a few of my favorites. To follow a link, click on their names.

* Matisyahu - Hassidic Jewish reggae

* The Postal Service - Indy Emo moog

* Panjabi MC - Panjab/Asian Indian Hip-Hop

All three are very good listens. I would encourage you all to try them out.

There's a great site that has a 7 page FAQ on how lightsabers work. Good in-depth article with suggestions on what to do with your new light-saber.

Classic Animation... now that's what i'm talkin' about

Was just flipping through the channels the other night and I happened across some animation that was absolutely stunning. It was called "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" and it was a pioneering animated feature film from 1926... and it was all done with hand cut-out silhouettes.

It reminded me so much of the game "The Fool's Errand" by Cliff Johnson that I went back to one of his interviews and, sure enough, he cited the film as a great inspiration.

As much as I enjoyed seeing the Animation Festival last month, and all the new animation techniques... I would really pay money to see an animation festival that shows the old stuff: Adventures of Prince Achmed, Destino (Salvador Dali and Walt Disney's joint project)... you know... cutting edge stuff when it really WAS cutting edge.

Also, on a short note, 'The Fool's Errand' is a fan-TAS-tic game and is a must play... and a FREE download! It really sucked me in and I cannot wait until July 5th when he brings out "The Fool and His Money". I am gonna pre-order my copy with this next paycheque... are you?

Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Been thinking about the people in my life who are no longer. I don't know why. You ever do that? Think of your best friend in sixth grade and try to look for them on GOOGLE or something... but then you get 2,000 results? And then when you add one defining word to your search you get nothing?

Well, I got a few links, but now it's the question of whether or not you should try to contact them. It's been a while.

Why is Dan Fogelberg's song " SAME OLD LANG SYNE " coming into my brain? AGH! GET IT OUT! GETITOUTNOOOOOW!!! Don't... (snif) don't wanna cry...

*****

And on a happier note, I have really been enjoying my 'birthday DVDs'. I got "EDDIE IZZARD: CIRCLE" and "Penn & Teller's BULLSHIT Season 2" and they're both fantastic. The 'Bullshit' series is like a real-man's Michael Moore show without Michael/without being so biassed with facts/and with Penn & Teller. And the Eddie Izzard DVD is... well... classic Eddie Izzard. This one doesn't have the 'bee keeper' monologue, but it's just as funny. And, I must say, he walks better in stelettos than most women I know. And I had no idea that he speaks flawless French. The DVD has a part where he does his act in Paris... it's very cool.

My wonderful Mom

With mother's day coming up, I wanted to tell you how much i'm proud of my mom.

This year, we have had to deal with a very stressful subject. Breast cancer. The type was a slow growing cancer and, with radiation treatment, 100% curable. She's halfway through the treatment but it's making her very tired. She's gonna make it though, and i'm very greatful.

She also got a great new 9-5/M-F job. FINALLY! A steady paycheque will do her good and the benefits will be even better for her.

My mom raised me from when I was born until I was 12. Then I went to live with my grandparents while she finished school and worked in Boulder/Denver. I missed her, but it was for the best... we were too stressed, I was a latch-key kid, I was failing school... it was tough.

But, through it all, my mom was the person that I get my morals and ethics from. She raised me, and taught me to be who I am. I thank my lucky stars every day that I have the mother I have. She came to almost every school/extra-curricular activity I was in even if she couln't really afford to be there.

I'm very proud of my mother. I know some people have a hard time with their moms, and sometimes I do too (I get my ((cough)) COLORFUL language from her too ((gasp!)) ), but I consider her not only my mother, but my friend as well.

Some people don't have their moms around anymore. Some have decided to never talk to them ever again, and some have forgotten. I am happy that I have the relationship I do with my mom.

Happy Mothers day to all you moms out there.

"Mother, I hope you know that I miss you so.
Time has ravaged all my soul... to wipe a mother's tears grown cold."

Saw two pretty good movies this weekend

Well, I got to see two good movies Saturday and really liked them.

HITCHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY and KUNG-FU HUSTLE

Now, my mom and I have a way of rating movies we see. We are movie junkies and will watch almost anything. I can only think of one movie I have actually walked out of, but otherwise I enjoy almost anything.

*Must own! Go now!
*I liked it. See in the theatres before it goes away. I might own it.
*Pretty good. I'd go see it in a matinee.
*It was ok, worth renting.
*Don't waste your money.

Both are a see in theatres while you can movie. I might own either. Hitchiker's is great because the movie script was written by Douglas Adams before he died. Deviates from the books but understandably. I liked it.

For Love of the Game...

So my wife and I went to a Sky Sox game this Sunday. We usually get free tickets to go see them from my work, so it’s a decent deal. The seats are literally right behind the Sky Sox dugout along first base. Sweet seats except for one problem: kids.

Sox the Fox (the team’s mascot) dances in front of us. Now that’s not a problem. Jen and I enjoy his antics and he includes us in his witty shenanigans... ah, that wacky Fox. What the problem is are the kids who come down to see Sox the Fox, stand right next to us and yell to get his attention.

Well, on Sunday I wish those particular kids were there. Unfortunately the day was cold and the stands were not too occupied where we were and some kids came down to ask some of the team players for a ball. It was cute… for the first three times they asked… then a choice few started hounding these poor minor league players (who were losing the game and weren't in the best of spirits) for a ball. Then (worst of all) their drunk parents started egging them on.

It got so bad that the parents started telling the kids to curse at the players. Then the parents themselves started cursing at the players. “Hey! Give the kid the ball!” “They’re just kids, gawd-da**it! Give em’ a friggin' ball!” “HEY! First base! You’re a PU**Y! Give my kid a ball”. I went to talk to a staff member when it got bad (actually, during this time I went twice to ask them to tell the kids to get to their designated seats) and he told me (and I quote) “I already went down there once, what do you want me to do?”.
STEEERIKE ONE!

Now, obviously since nobody else is doing anything, 'I' have to be the grown-up. So I go down and tell the kids who are yelling and taunting the players to go to their designated seats. They look at me like they were just scolded by Bozo the clown and sit down in the chairs near them with a "you're not the boss of me" look. “No, go sit with your parents. Unless you paid for these seats, you need to sit up there!” pointing to the seats where the drunk parents were still begging baseballs for their kids. So the kids go up, and the parents yell down to us (from about 8 rows up) that we suck, and then comes the barrage of cursing at us. I yell back that they didn’t pay for the seats and that they shouldn’t be bugging the players for a baseball while a game is going on. I turn back to try to watch the game when the ringleader of the “Drunken Idiots of Colorado Kids” club starts berating us even more. Over the whole game you can hear this jerk yelling at us asking us that if ‘we were so tough to come up there’ and many other choice names... none clever... and none threatening to me. Trust me, I've heard them all.
STEEERIKE TWO!

Then one of them comes down to where Jen and I are sitting (obviously drunk off his keister and holding a beer) and says… “Hey, they’re only kids… let them have fun.”

Me: “I don’t want to sit through the rest of the game hearing these kids beg for baseballs.”

Him: “But they’re just kids, they’re just having fun.”

Me: “Well, they can have fun. I don’t mind these kids here (pointing to some of the more polite children who are just rooting for the team), they’re not berating the players. They’re having fun without being obnoxious.”

Him: “Hey, they’re kids… let them have fun” (he really liked saying that) It’s just like when you were a kid chasing baseballs and getting autographs…” (urp)

Me: “I never did. I didn’t do that.”

Him: “Of course you didn’t. You’re not athletic.”

Me: “No, I’m not.”

Him: “See? You’re just a piece of s*$t… you can’t appreciate this. Piece of s*$t. You're not athletic.” and he walks away muttering to himself... beer filling his beer-belly.

Come to find out that when he got back to his seat they then got kicked out of the field by security.
STEEERIKE THREE! YER OUT!

(sigh) I thought that I would get away from these guys when I graduated High-School. Sorry to say, folks... they're still among us even in our adult years.

And I can’t even be mad at 'athletes' or 'jocks'… because I have several friends who are ‘jocks’ who do not act like this guy and probably never have. It's like getting upset at Arabian-Americans for 9-11. You shouldn't do that. But that took the cake. I can’t enjoy a baseball game because ‘I’ am not an ‘athlete’? F^%k you!

There’s a reason I hate certain athletes, and this ‘berating people not as athletic as you’ is one of them. I was in drama club. Guilty. I was in choir. Guilty. I played D&D openly in the cafeteria. Guilty!

There’s a reason I didn’t try out for sports and it was that I didn’t want to be associated with a$$-hole$ like him!

The worst part is this: I took name-calling a lot in grade school… a LOT! I was the runt of the school in Junior High. RUNT OF THE SCHOOL! I gained a pretty hard shell for names and cursing at me from that. But my wife didn’t get that shell and him calling her a ‘piece of s*$t’ really hurt her. A lot. Thing is, I don’t know what to do. I really don't.

I really like baseball. I got that from 'Maime' (my grandmother). 'Maime' always watched the World Series and always rooted for both teams. She didn’t care who heard her either… she wanted a good game. And I was taught to support your team, but not to be rude. Yell to 'rally the boys', but don’t be obnoxious. Simpler times I guess.

Jen and I decided that the best way to enjoy the game now is to get tickets in the family section. Not because we're scared that they'll come back (my wife'd kick their @$$! Seriously, it took all her self-control not to jump the jerk when he began insulting her...) but because we're tired of the distractions that DO occur. They took away my childhood when I was in grade-school and now those f*%kers took my free seats. Bullies fu*%ing suck!

I really hate that there are people like that out there. Thing I hate even more is that the two boys who were begging for balls have him as a role-model and they’re gonna taunt my children someday.
